Last year, I had another chance to photograph Azure Damselflies. When it comes to damselflies and dragonflies, it’s rare to catch them resting anywhere long enough to be photographed, so I’m still very much practising the art of capturing these flighty little creatures. I’m always drawn to the vibrant blue of the male Azure Damselfly. … More Damselfly: Azure
I love watching & photographing bees on flowers. There’s something calming watching them move from flower to flower collecting sunlight and pollen in equal measure. The combination of the yellow of the bees and of the Ox-Eye daisies just shouts Summer to me. Which is why this scene captured my attention and needed to be … More Bumblebee & Ox-Eye Daisies
Dragonflies & Damselflies are becoming one of my favourite subjects to photograph. A recent to visit to Potteric Carr | YWT gave us the opportunity to photograph this fine specimen of what I believe is a male Common Darter dragonfly. I’ve photographed Common Darters before, but I’ve never encountered one with such an intensely vibrant … More Common Darter (Male)
Back to some wildlife photography, although I’m sure I will have plenty more photos to share of our fuzzy friend to add to my Cat Chronicles collection. Until last Summer I didn’t realise that we got Grasshoppers here in the UK. I feel quite privileged that each time we have spotted them it has been … More The Grasshopper
This is only my second attempt at photographing dragonflies and it’s by no means my best photography. I find them quite tricky little characters to focus on as they rarely stay still long enough to capture their detail in full focus. I happened by this dragonfly purely by chance while exploring a local nature reserve … More Common Darter
A lot of patience is usually required when photographing bees (any winged insect for that matter) just as you have focused on them they are off to their next plant or flower. I love watching them as the busy themselves collecting nectar and pollen from the plants that they visit. I captured these shots while … More Bumblebee on Cosmos
Bees may not bee (pun very much intended) everyone’s favourite insect. However they are very important to the life-cycle of our planet, and how can you not love these little pollinators? They may not be the easiest subject to photograph (patience is definitely required to get the perfect shot) but when you get that perfect … More Bumblebee
My first attempt at photographing a dragonfly, not my best work but I am pretty impressed with the end result nevertheless. As you can imagine they are quite difficult to photograph as they don’t stay in one place for more than a few seconds at any one time, so a lot of patience was required. … More Azure Damselfly
Living in the city sometimes I think we all forget about the nature that is right on our doorstep, myself included. You can find a glimpse of nature in any urban space. Across the road from our own urban space we have our own little glimpse of nature. Reminding me that beauty can be found everywhere.
On a recent trip to Leeds I had the opportunity to visit a tropical house where I managed to capture some shots of butterflies.
The third and final photo blog entry for today, again following on from the previous two posts. The Sheffield Botanical Gardens provided me with more inspiration this time in the form of insects as well as the flowers. Combine lots of flowers with warm sunny July weather and you will almost certainly see bee’s. This … More Honey to the Bee
