Woodland Friends: Grey Squirrel

There’s a certain charm watching and photographing Squirrels. The grey squirrel, often dismissed as ordinary, reveals a world of expression when you slow down to watch them. I’ve tried to capture those fleeting gestures: the cautious reach for a peanut, the focused nibble, and the poised stillness that defines its character.

You need patience and quiet observation when photographing Squirrels. The soft hues of the woodland backdrop, paired with the natural fencing that traces the forest paths, create an unobtrusive setting that lets the squirrel’s behaviour take centre focus. I wanted to highlight the balance between alertness and curiosity. The way it pauses mid‑motion, aware yet unafraid.
