When Velcro first wandered into our lives and it became clear she was becoming a regular visitor, we bought her a little pet bed for the shed so she’d have somewhere cosy to sleep. She wasn’t remotely interested. Cardboard boxes were far more appealing.
Then we rediscovered the old cat basket that belonged to my childhood cat, no idea why I’d kept it for more than thirty years, but there it was. I found an old cushion, wrapped it in a plush fleece blanket, and set it up so Velcro would have a soft, warm spot whenever she came inside. Again, she couldn’t care less. Even placing her gently in the basket did nothing to convince her it was meant for her.
Weeks, maybe months, passed. At some point I removed the fleece blanket (I can’t even remember why) and left the bare cushion in the basket. Turns out an old cushion is far more appealing than a brand‑new plush blanket. Simple tastes, clearly.
Velcro choosing to use the basket for the first time absolutely demanded a photo session. Considering she usually dislikes being photographed while relaxing, these moments where she almost poses are rare treasures. The opportunity couldn’t be wasted. I think the basket has officially become her comfy spot and her throne.
