Marigold Garden

While spending time in the garden recently, I was drawn to the vibrant colours of these blooms. The brilliant yellow petals and deep orange tones seemed to glow against the darker foliage, creating a natural contrast that immediately caught my eye. What might appear to be a simple garden flower reveals an incredible amount of detail when viewed up close.

In this series, I wanted to focus on the textures, shapes and colours that make marigolds such rewarding photographic subjects. The layered petals create a sense of movement and depth, while the warm colour palette evokes the final richness of the growing season. Each bloom has its own character, from the neatly arranged yellow petals surrounding the flower’s centre to the more dramatic, almost flame-like structure of the orange blossom.

One of the aspects I enjoyed most while photographing these flowers was exploring the relationship between the two colours. Positioned together, the yellow and orange blooms complement each other beautifully, creating a composition that feels both vibrant and balanced. The darker background helps isolate the flowers, allowing their natural brilliance to become the focal point of each image.

Photography often encourages us to slow down and appreciate details that might otherwise go unnoticed. These marigolds were a perfect reminder that beauty can often be found just a few steps from the front door, waiting to be discovered through a different perspective.
