As the gardening season begins to wind down and many summer blooms fade, Asters step forward to provide one final burst of colour before autumn fully arrives. Their vibrant purple petals and golden centres bring life to borders and flowerbeds at a time when many plants have already completed their seasonal display.
I decided to focus on the beauty found within these individual blooms. By getting up close, I wanted to capture the intricate layers of petals, the delicate textures surrounding the flower centres, and the rich colours that make Asters such a striking feature in the autumn garden.
Asters are also valuable garden plants for wildlife, continuing to provide a source of nectar for late-season pollinators when many other flowers have disappeared. Although these photographs focus on the blooms themselves, they are a reminder of the important role such plants play in supporting insects as the seasons change.
These photographs are part of my ongoing effort to find beauty in everyday subjects close to home. Sometimes the most rewarding photographs are not found in dramatic landscapes or distant locations, but in taking the time to appreciate the remarkable detail hidden within a single flower.
