There are moments in photography that don’t feel captured, they feel given. This Peacock butterfly resting on spring blossoms was one of those quiet gifts. I didn’t go out looking for it. I wasn’t chasing a shot. I was simply enjoying our garden when these butterfly visitors appeared.
Our first signs of spring are appearing in the garden. The blossom trees have begun to bloom, and their early flowers are already drawing in butterflies. We usually see Cabbage Whites, but this year’s early blossoms seem to have caught the attention of a few beautiful Peacock butterflies. I’m looking forward to seeing what other wild visitors we have to our garden this year as the weather starts to warm up.
More and more I’m learning that photography isn’t just about capturing what you see. It’s about noticing what others might walk past. This butterfly reminded me that even the smallest subjects can hold entire worlds of colour, texture, and meaning.
Sometimes, all you need to do is pause long enough to notice them.
